Team profile
Argentina will come into the 2011 FIVB Volleyball Men’s Junior World Championship with the excitement, mainly due to the tournament taking place in Brazil, their archrivals. The Argentine Team will reach the competition as world No.1s and try to reassert this and improve on their bronze medal win in 2009.
All of the players in this Argentine Junior Team played in the ACLAV Argentine Senior Men Teams League, whether in A1 or A2 League. This is a clear sign of the quality and skills of these young players, some of them even reaching the final stages of the tournament.
Argentina prepared with many international clashes. The boys coached by Juan Cichello not only worked at CeNARD facilities in Buenos Aires, but also trained in Brazil, played the Pan Am Cup in Canada and will host some friendly tournaments in the final stages of preparation.
Coach profile
Juan Manuel Cichello is one of the craftsman that took Argentina to first in the FIVB Junior and Youth World Championship. Since the year 2006 Juan Cichello worked in the development of the grassroot national teams, with great and results.
Cichello started his career with River Plate, first playing and then coaching as well as coaching several grass-root teams at numerous World Championships. A fourth place finish at the Youth Boys Championship in 2007, a fifth place for the Junior Men Championship in the same year and an historical bronze medal with the junior team in 2009 are just some of his achievements.
Prior to this in 2008 Cichello coached two Argentine National Teams – both winning their South American Championships in Brazil in an historical year for Argentine volleyball.
Brazil will be Cichello’s fourth World Championship. He also participated in several ACLAV Argentine A2 Leagues with the youth team. Locally, he also coaches Villa María team – doing a good job that allowed the team to finish among the best four teams in last season’s competition.
