Dinamo Kazan complete unprecedented hat trick by winning Russian Superleague

Dinamo Kazan won the title of the Russian Superleague only four days after they had downed Brazil’s Molico Osasco in the the FIVB Women’s Club World Championship in Zurich

Kazan, Russia, May 15, 2014 – Dinamo Kazan added another title to their collection routing their archrivals Dinamo Moscow in straight sets 3-0 (25-17, 25-21, 25-18) in the final match of the Russian Superleague on Thursday.

Dinamo Kazan claimed their fourth consecutive crown contemplating a terrific hat trick this year following their victories in the 2014 CEV DenizBankg Volleyball Champions League and the FIVB Volleyball Women’s Club World Championship.

The final match of the Russian Superleague was held only four days after Dinamo Kazan had downed Brazil’s Molico Osasco in the the FIVB Women’s Club World Championship in Zurich. The match was played on neutral ground, in Odintsovo, where Dinamo Kazan easily edged past their rivals from Russia’s capital city in straight sets.

Dinamo Kazan's four consecutive titles were all claimed under the guidance of head coach Rishat Gilyazutdinov. Quite significantly the last point of their final match with Dinamo Moscow was scored by their undisputed star, Ekaterina Gamova. This is the tenth national title for Gamova, which makes her the second best in Russian history, with Elizaveta Tishchenko topping the charts with 12. As for Dinamo’s mentor Gilyazutdinov, with four titles, he is second only to the legendary Nikolay Karpol, whose resume includes 14.

As for Dinamo Moscow, they lost their fourth consecutive final to Kazan and had to be content with their fifth straight silver medal in the Russian Superleague. Dinamo Kazan, Dinamo Moscow and Omichka Omsk Region will represent Russia in the 2015 edition of the CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League.

Omichka won the bronze medal match with Dinamo Krasnodar 3-2 (25-18, 23-25, 25-20, 19-25, 15-7), thereby securing the third and last ticket to Europe’s most prestigious club competition.

Dinamo Krasnodar will compete in the 2015 CEV Volleyball Cup while Uralochka-NTMK Ekaterinburg will carry the Russian hopes in the 2015 edition of the CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup.

The 2014/2015 Russian Superleague will be joined by the team from Gamova’s home town, Avtodor Metar Chelyabinsk, which won the so-called Division A. Ufimochka Ufa eventually retained their spot in the Superleague after claiming a series of play-out matches with the second placed team from Division A, Leningradka St Petersburg.
