Brazil's Molico/ Osasco open with victory over spirited Japan's Hisamitsu Springs


Molico Ossasco Players celebrating the win over Japan's Hisamitsu at Women's Club World Championship in Zurich

 Zurich, Switzerland, May 7, 2014- heavy favourites Brazil's Molico /Osasco opened the 2014 FIVB Women's Club World Championship on the right foot with a convincing 3-1 (25-12, 20-25, 25-18, 25-22) in 99 minutes over the motivated Japan's Hisamitsu Springs in Pool B at Saalsporthalle in Zurich, Switzerland on Wednesday.

 Outstanding Brazilian middle blocker Thaisa Menezes topped the chart of the scorers with 18 points including 5 dying blocks followed by opposite spiker Sheilla Castro 14 points. On the other side left handed opposite Miyu Nagaoka was the main scorer for the Japanese with a tally of 17 points including 3 successful blocks followed by outside hitter Risa Shinnabe who contributed 11 for her team. 

 What made the difference in the exciting match was the superior blocking activity for Molico team who succeeded to gain 15 dying blocks against only 8 for Hisamitsu.

 With some strong spike services from the Brazilian team they could disturb the Japanese team as they took the lead from the start till 8-6 at the first TTO. Osasco started to arrange their combinations using the opposite spiker Sheilla Castro who succeeded to penetrate the opponent's blockers to increase the point deficit gradually till 21-10. Middle blocker Adenizia Silva worked well in blocking and quick spiking as Osasco won the set widely 25-12.

 Hisamitsu started the second set in a different performance as they arranged their blockers who succeeded to stop the opponent's attacks. Meanwhile the Japanese opposite Miyu Nagaoka worked well with her left hand sharp spikes from position 2 and forced Molico's coach to replace his star Sheilla. The Japanese team had a wide lead 18-13 as they have become more motivated to increase the lead 21-15 continue to win the set 25-20 to level the score 1-1.  
 
 Both teams again went point by point in the third set till the draw 5-5 when Osasco narrowly lead 8-6 at the STT with Thaisa Menezes dying block. With the sharp hits from outside hitter Risa Shinnabe, Hisamitsu stayed near till Molico led 16-13 in the STT. Thaisa marvelous performance helped Brazil team to win the set 25-18 to lead 2-1.

 Again Thaisa and Adenizia worked well in blocking and quick spiking from position 3 to allow a wide lead for Molico 8-1 at the FTT. Later the Japanese players improved their defence to decrease the point deficit to 14-11. Molico continued with a proper spikes to win the set 25-22 and the match 3-1.
