FIVB Volleyball Girls' U18 World Championship

Zurich set to host 2014 edition of women's club world championship

Zurich will open its doors to the volleyball family for a second year running when it welcomes six of the worlds premier clubs for the eighth edition of the FIVB Volleyball Womens Club World Championship from May 7 to 11.

In this year’s tournament host club Volero Zurich will be joined by the Continental champions from South America, Europe and Asia. The participation of two teams – jointly decided by the FIVB and the organisers – will complete the line-up of clubs taking part in the Championship.

Last year’s tournament saw VakifBank Istanbul graduate from European to world champions. In front of a packed Saalsporthalle in Zurich, the Turkey representatives beat their South American counterparts Unilever Volei from Brazil in straight sets 3-0 (25-23, 27-25, 25-16) to capture their first ever FIVB Volleyball Womens Club World Championship title.

Unlike the Men’s Club World Championship, the FIVB Volleyball Women’s Club World Championship has had seven different winners from four different countries. Brazil has been represented on the winner’s podium three times, while Azerbaijan, Italy and Turkey have all had clubs step on the top podium once.
