Kaylee Manns: around the world with volleyball

25-year young Iowa Ice setter Kaylee Manns enjoyed her coming back to Switzerland where she used to play for TSV Düdingen.

Zurich, Switzerland, October 11, 2013 – Kaylee Manns, setter of Iowa Ice at the 2013 FIVB Women’s Club World Championship, loves volleyball and travelling.

A professional life as volleyball player is hard work. However, it has also its sunny sides. One of the biggest positive aspects is certainly the possibility of travelling around the world. A player who is an ‘expert’ in this matter is Iowa Ice setter Kaylee Manns. The 25-year young player has seen many countries during her career.

With the Women’s Club World Champs, Manns returns to Switzerland, a place she perfectly knows. The American used to play for TSV Düdingen, a team in the highest Swiss league. “I love Switzerland. The atmosphere here in Zurich is amazing. I have seen many people during the tournament I know from the past, for example my former coach from Düdingen.” Manns has not forgotten her time back in Switzerland: “There are so many memories from my stay here in Switzerland. I will never forget the amazing playoff series against Neuchatel.”

“I missed volleyball”

Kaylee Manns’ way to the 2013 FIVB Women’s Club World Championship is quite unusual. The American setter came back after a one-year volleyball break: “I took a year off and got a normal job in the USA, but I missed volleyball so much. That is why I decided to come back and play again. As I am still young I want to use this opportunity and continue my career a little bit longer. I cannot stay at the same place for too long.”

Kaylee Manns’ comeback at Women’s Club World Champs ended with two defeats. The US-setter saw most of all one big challenge in Iowa’s team: “The cohesion. We had almost no time to train together. As a consequence, I was not used to connect with the spikers. We would have been more competitive with a longer preparation phase. However, the most important is that we accepted the defy as a team and tried to do our best.”

For the new season, Manns will move to the Philippines: “I signed a contract with a Philippine team. I am going there with an open mind. To be frank, I know nothing about my new adventure.” The US setter is used to incertitude: “I already know my arrival time and the name of my new team”, she smiles.

The 2013 FIVB Women’s Club World Championship campaign ended for Kaylee Manns and her teammates from Iowa Ice on Thursday with their second defeat. A new adventure will start soon.
