Belo Horizonte, Brazil, May 10, 2014 - FIVB Men's Club World Championship definitely acted as a landmark for Belo Horizonte. Not only due to the presence of world's top teams and players fighting for the world title, but also enabling an unforgettable experience for over 5,000 kids from local schools, some of them able to witness a world-class competition for the first time.

Sada Cruzeiro, working together with the Government of Minas Gerais and Belo Horizonte City Hall, developed the initiative, inviting lots of youngsters to vibrate with the awesome display of every match at Mineirinho. And they gave an excellent feedback.

Early in the afternoon, caravans of little students arrived from many parts of the city, giving a unique and special color to the event, and choosing their own favourites to cheer for. On different occasions, children were able to enjoy awesome games as Trentino v UPCN and also the one held between the Argentinean side and the stars of Al-Rayyan. Both games extended for five sets, providing the best treat possible for the kids.

The action was well received by teachers and students from dozens of municipal schools invited to bring their little fans.

Some children even watched volleyball matches live in an arena for the first time, and they had no doubts while describing the experience. “It's very thrilling”, said, together, 10 years-old Carlos Henrique Ferreira dos Santos and Nicolas Gustavo, 9.

For others, besides the excitement and distraction provided by the trip, the way how the athletes overcome the challenges is the highlight of the whole experience. “We are learning that everything is not impossible, and that we can reach anything. After all, the athletes have to put in a lot of effort while training and also to win a match”, expressed the 12-years old student Diuliam Stéfany.

The opportunity to experience the sport has also an important teaching role, explained Physical Education teacher Wantuil Antônio dos Santos: “I brought my class to watch the match because I'm starting volleyball with my students. The lecture we will have here is a practical one, which will help me a lot in the future. This experience should be extended not only to volleyball but also to basketball and all other sports. Even though they [the students] watch a lot of it in TV, to be able to see it live is way better.”

According to teacher Núbia Prates, actions like this are very important for the students to escape a little from the seriousness of the school atmosphere, and that they also feel very valued. “They feel flattered, glad. After all, for them, it's like a celebration day, all is new. The boys almost never leave the school. This is good for them”, she stated.
