Argentinean coach Méndez changed volleyball landscape in Sada Cruzeiro

Méndez leads Sada Cruzeiro since 2010 and harvested 12 titles with the team

Belo Horizonte, Brazil, May 9, 2014 - He landed in Brazil in 2009 and, since then, volleyball for Sada Cruzeiro was never the same. Coach Marcelo Méndez, on the verge of another key moment for the team at 2014 FIVB Men's Club World Championship, has already carried the blue team to the world's elite.

So far, Sada Cruzeiro reached the top spot at all tournaments played in the current season: Mineiro Championship, 2013 Men's Club World Championship in Betim, Brazilian Cup, Brazilian Superliga and South American Championship. An extremely successful campaign, outside what might happen from Friday in Belo Horizonte.

An experienced coach, Méndez became a volleyball reference in Brazil and the world scene, and also is someone that many Argentines take pride in. Setter Demián González, UPCN captain, expressed so: "What he is doing is huge. So many trophies in such a short while, is something incredible. I didn't have the luck to be coached by him, but everybody has only good things to say about him. It's really good to know that a coach from our country has been a world champion and reached such a high level".

The achievements attained by Méndez in Brazilian soil go back to 2009, when he was ahead Montes Claros and earned the regional championship trophy for the first time, months before he arrived to Sada Cruzeiro. From 2010 on, leading the team from Belo Horizonte, he made it to 15 finals in a row, seizing 12 trophies.

The success of Sada Cruzeiro’s coach echoes in the work of professionals of his own home country. "Marcelo is a really diligent coach, with a great cultural background, and all he does is very good for us. He is an old friend of mine and I'm glad for his success", said Fabián Armoa, UPCN coach.

Currently playing in Europe for Italy's Trentino, Argentine middle-blocker Sebastián Solé also praises his path. "He did a lot of great and important things up until now. On an international level, he is maybe the best coach nowadays, because he has won twice the Brazilian Championship and is the world champion. He commands a team of hard workers who play really well. I am glad to see an Argentine doing so well, it's magnificent", he stated.

Now, at home, the team dreams about the second Club World Championship crown, ahead of what will be a very tough semifinal duel against Qatar's Al-Rayyan. Nevertheless, Méndez and all of Sada Cruzeiro are ready for the challenge: "It's our goal. This a very tough championship, with greatly skilled international volleyball teams, but we will fight for this. I always want to win, I get in to win, to improve each time and the club offers me all the structure for this. When I came to Brazil, about five years ago, I did not envision conquering so much. But now I want more."
