Trentino say goodbye with a smooth victory over Esperance Tunis

Sebastián Solé pulled out 11 blocks in an outstanding performance for Trentino

Belo Horizonte, Brazil, May 8, 2014 - Former four-time champions Trentino from Italy cruised past Esperance Tunis at what was the last match for both of them at FIVB Men’s Club World Championship in Brazil. The Italian side prevailed 3-0 (25-16, 25-19, 25-16).

Sebastián Solé emerged as the best man of the match, superbly nailing 11 blocking points in a total of 21. Alexandre Ferreira followed him with 12 tallies, while Tunisia’s Hichem Kaabi made 11.

Solé did some heavy damage with floated serves and carried his team to a 6-3 lead. Even though Kaabi pulled Esperance closer (8-7), Ferreira showed great shape at the service line and Trentino regrouped to 14-10. The difference grew steadily until the final track: the Tunisian team lost focus and gave away points (21-14) and Ferreira reappeared, this time over the net, to finish the set at 25-16.

Nothing changed for the second chapter, as Trentino advanced to 6-3 and 12-7 making useless all defensive efforts from Esperance. As the set went on, Solé reached already the amazing number of 7 blocking points, and Ferreira joined him as the main spiker of the team. Trentino made it look simple as they walked to a 21-14 score and a long Tunisian serve established the 25-19.

For the third, Solé kept blocking all Tunisian hopes and the board moved from 8-4 to 14-6 with the Argentinean completely reining at the net. Filippo Lanza smashed a good spike just before the second TTO (16-9). Kay Van Dijk entered the court and served an ace at 19-9, providing one of the biggest leads of the entire tournament. He repeated at 21-9 and, a while later, the game ended with a Tunisian error at 25-16.
