BELO Horizonte PROUD HOST of FIVB volleyball men’s Club World Championship

The 2014 edition of the FIVB Volleyball Men’s Club World Championship was held in the inspirational Mineirinho Arena in Belo Horizonte city in Brazil from May 5 to 10 and crowned Russian club Belgorie Belgorod. The runners-up were Al-Rayyan from Qatar, followed by UPCN from Argentina. Hosts Sada Cruzeiro were fourth, Italian club Trentino Volley and Iranians Matin Varamin shared fifth place, while Guaynabo Mets from Puerto Rico and Esperance Tunis from Tunisia finished seventh.

Hosts and FIVB Volleyball Men’s Club World Championship title holders Sada Cruzeiro automatically qualified for the year’s event. Sada Cruzeiro, who were silver medallists in the 2012/2013 Brazilian Super League, also finished second to Italy’s Trentino in the 2012 FIVB Volleyball Men’s Club World Championship held in Doha, Qatar.

The host club was joined by the Continental Champion teams from South America, Europe, Africa and Asia in addition to the NORCECA nominated team, with the title going to Belogorie Belgorod of Russia. The participation of two teams jointly decided by the FIVB and the organisers completed the line-up of clubs taking part in the Championship.

Trentino held the men’s title from 2009 to 2012, continuing the outstanding tradition of Italian volleyball which has seen Italian clubs win eight of the ten editions of the tournament.
