Lokomotiv get win despite poor performance

Russia's Lokomotiv Novosibirsk was only a shadow compared with the impressive showing against Sada Cruzeiro one night earlier

Betim, Brazil, October 18, 2013 – Russia’s Lokomotiv Novosibirsk benefitted from the sloppy play of Tunisia’s Sportif Sfaxien in the latter part of the tie-breaker and came out winners over the African champions.

Alexander Butko, captain of Lokomotiv: We didn’t win this match, the Tunisian team lost it. I can’t understand why we played so badly. I don’t think we were tired from playing five sets the night before. We need to analyze this match and make sure we don’t make the same mistakes. We lost the concentration and tried to serve and spike harder.

Ismail Moalla, player of Sportif Sfaxien: Lokomotiv is a very strong team and maybe they go to the finals. We played very relaxed in the first set but then we put it together and played a very good game. We had an opportunity to win the match. I think the young players will feel better after this match.

Andrey Voronkov, coach of Lokomotiv: It was very important to win today against the African champions. We made too many mistakes. The important is the result even if it was a 3-2. We need to improve our game for the semifinals.

Mohamed Ben Mustapha, coach of Sportif Sfaxien: I still don’t believe we were so close to winning against such strong team. We need more power to face strong teams like these because in our championships we only have one or two strong matches in the semifinals. We were near to producing a big surprise and I hope this will help us to do better in the future.
