"I am proud of the way my team played today" says USA mentor Hugh McCutcheon

USA coach Hugh McCutcheon being congratulated by his assistant, volleyball legend Karch Kiraly, at the end of the victorious semifinal with the Republic of Korea played at Earls Court on Thursday afternoon

London, Great Britain, August 9, 2012 – “Our team battled and needed to battle to go to the final. The Korean team made us a lot of troubles in terms of defence and blocks. We need to make some adjustments after the match. I’m proud of the way our team played today” said coach Hugh McCutcheon after the 3-0 win claimed by his side in the semi-final with Korea.
“We didn’t play our best in the tournament so far. Hopefully we will play our best in the gold medal match. We did play better after we reached 20 points” commented captain Lindsey Berg who had missed the quarterfinal with the Dominican Republic through injury. “I feel OK now, my team helped me a lot. I don’t need to run around. Saturday I will play my best. If after the match I can’t walk, I will still try to fight”.

“USA played like a No.1 team. They had the height, speed and the ability to adjust on court. Our blocks were poor, which meant we did not perform. We now need to work for the bronze medal. Whether we play Brazil or Japan. We still need to improve” stressed Korean coach Kim Hyung-Sil.
“We need to get more focused on the next goal, which is for bronze medal. Right after this defeat, we had a brief talk. We said: we lost, so let’s not dwell on that. What we want is a medal, it doesn’t matter what colour” concluded captain Kim Sa-Nee.
