"There is still a lot of meat on the bone" says Hugh McCutcheon after 3-0 win over Dominican Republic

With 19 points Destinee Hooker paced Team USA to a 3-0 win over Dominican Republic in the 1/4 finals of the Olympic tournament

London, Great Britain, August 7, 2012 – “There was a lot on the line tonight, the Dominican Republic were a different team to play for us, so I had to manage the team well and they had to do their best. I am very happy with the group. We have had a good level of play throughout the whole tournament. We can now look forward confidently” said US American mentor Hugh McCutcheon after the 3-0 win scored by his side in the 1/4 finals. As for the injury affecting setter and captain Lindsey Berg, he said: “I am still optimistic. I am very happy for Courtney Thompson who played great tonight”. On the rest of the tournament: “From all the matches we’ve seen here we know there are a lot of good teams. There is still a lot of meat on the bone. We can head on from here and we will play whoever will show up. There is a great atmopshere here, London should be very proud, I couldn’t be happier”.

US top scorer Destinee Hooker commented: “The first two sets went really well. It feels good but you have to expect the unexpected. The nerves are there every match”.

“We played at a very low level in the first set, but in the next two we played much better. USA is very strong but we finished the game at a high level” said Dominican mentor Marcos Kwiek. “I’m very happy with my team. We were in a very strong pool. It was good for us to prepare the next Olympic Games in Rio because playing with strong teams you get much more experience. Now we will work for that and try to be at that level in 2016”.
