"We were very tired and emotionally flat" says GB coach Harry Brokking after 0-3 defeat to Argentina

With the Olympic campaign of Team GB having come to a close, coach Harry Brokking hopes there will be a legacy for the group also after London 2012

London, Great Britain, August 6, 2012 – “We got knocked out last match so we just tried to go out there and do our thing and enjoy it. We wanted to do something” said local hero Dami Bakare after Team GB suffered a 0-3 defeat to Argentina on Monday afternoon at Earls Court. “It’s sad that I may not see this (Olympic Games volleyball) for a long time – we’re very proud. We’ve shown that Great Britain have talent and hopefully we’ve inspired all these people that have come to watch. We want to take it to the next level”.
“We’re very tired. We’ve played five matches in a row. We are emotionally flat. I’ve tried to push them. It's been very heavy. It’s been our first big tournament so there’s been a lot of emotional strength out of our body” said GB coach Harry Brokking. As for the future of the team, he said: “If there is no money there will be no programme. My contract has officially ended. For us it is over if no money comes in, and we would obviously like to continue”.

“It was a good match for us” commented Argentinean coach Javier Weber. “We made point differences right from the start and we were really effective in attack. It was an important win to ensure qualification to the quarterfinals, so I am very happy. Looking ahead to the quarterfinals, I am very positive because the team is getting better and better each match. Whoever we are drawn against it will be a tough team. It could be Russia, Brazil or Germany. I am looking forward to it. It will be a beautiful battle”.

“I believe it went today how we were expecting - ending in the best possible way. We believe we can get better still and classify for the semis” concluded Nicolas Uriarte. As for Team GB, he said: “We saw them play on the first day and they keep getting better in attack, but we won 3-0 and we are very happy”.
