Press release

Italy's most important match will be on Sunday

Valentina Arrighetti was one of the top scorers in the victory of Italy over Algeria to stay in contention for first place in Pool A

Valentina Arrighetti, Player of Italy: It was important to maintain the rhythm of our and it was important we are prepared for Sunday, which is our most important match.

On the impact of having two easy wins ahead of a tough match:
Of course it's always important to do one's best but it's most important to beat Russia. Then we will be even better prepared when we arrive at the quarterfinals.

Antonella Del Core, Player of Italy: Against Russia, it will be different. It will change. We are going to need a lot more force, a lot more concentration and it will be a completely different match.

On whether Italy can win the tournament:
You never jinx the situation. It's the only medal (gold medal) we are missing (as an NOC). We really believe we can do it. We believe in ourselves and we want it.

Lydia Oulmou, Captain of Algeria: It was an interesting match. Italy is the first team that we play that is like us. They have the same type of play - same height, but with a higher level than us. Japan played really quick in comparison to Italy. It was a bit easier for us.

On what they have learned in the tournament so far:
We are gaining experience and we'll try to bring it back to Africa with a view to getting a European level of play in a few years.

On the next match:
Against Dominican Republic it's going to be difficult. They will do the maximum to qualify. We saw them playing today against Great Britain and we were very impressed. We are sure that they will wait for us with a knife between their teeth.
