"It was fundamental to take three points from this game" says Italy captain Cristian Savani

London, Great Britain, August 2, 2012 – “It was difficult because they (Great Britain) are technically different than the others. They put in a lot of effort and pride. We had to keep our level of game high. Tonight we grew mentally more than technically. I would say: mission accomplished” stated Italy’s second setter Dante Boninfante after Italy’s 3-0 win over the local heroes of Team GB.
“Three points. For us it is fundamental to win six points in the two matches against Great Britain and against Australia” added captain Cristian Savani.
“We got three points that we wanted and that we need to qualify in the top of the pool. We want to keep on improving, these opponents were different than the others, we want to use these two matches (against Great Britain and the upcoming match against Australia) to improve. Australia plays in a different way and they are physically different to Great Britain. These two matches are very important for us to concentrate more on ourselves than on our opponents. Australia has a great coach, it will be a real match” commented coach Mauro Berruto.

“I think we are doing the results we want. I mean six years ago, we started from nothing. And here we are competing with the world's best” stressed home hero Peter Bakare. “We always want to improve and get better and show that this country can play volleyball”.
