Poland outclass Argentina

Thousands of Polish fans were in the stands of Earls Court to cheer in favor of their countrymen during the match against Argentina on Thursday

London, Great Britain, August 2, 2012 – Poland trounced Argentina in straight sets (25-18, 25-20, 25-16) to achieve their second victory in Pool A of the Olympic Games men’s volleyball tournament at Earls Court on Thursday.

The Polish relied on a superb offensive effort to subdue an Argentinean team who appeared sluggish throughout the match. The South American side are now at 1-2.

The winners grounded spike after spike and finished 48-for-74 in their killing attempts. Poland outblocked Argentina 6-4 and also were better in the service winners category 6-1.

Zbigniew Bartman, who landed 15 spikes out of 22, topped the winners with 17 points, followed by Bartosz Kurek with 16 and Michal Winiarski with 12.

Argentina’s Federico Pereyra and Rodrigo Quiroga finished the match with 11 and 10 tallies respectively.

Facundo Conte and Federico Pereyra were Argentina's main scorers, but Bartosz Kurek and Zbigniew Bartman - the two top scorers in the tournament so far - were unstoppable as Poland surged to the first set 25-18.

The second set was closer with Argentina improving. Libero Alexis Gonzalez impressed and Rodrigo Quiroga joined the scoring, but Poland maintained a comfortable lead. Michal Winiarski joined Bartman and Kurek’s assaults, and they won the set 25-20.
Poland finished the job in style, winning the last set 25-16 with Kurek dazzling, while Bartman finished as the match's top scorer.

Poland, with two wins and a loss, face Great Britain in the fourth round of preliminary matches on Friday. Argentina, who have lost two and won one, tackle Bulgaria.
