"We knew it was a must-win game for us and we felt the pressure" says Bulgaria captain Vladimir Nikolov

Bulgarian fans at Earls Court celebrate the 3-0 win of their heroes over Australia to keep a perfect record in Pool A

London, Great Britain, August 2, 2012 – Cheered by Stefka Kostadinova, a true sport legend in their country, the guys of Bulgaria’s national team scored on Thursday their third win in the Olympic tournament by cruising past Australia in straight sets.
“We stopped making easy mistakes and kept pushing. We worked well together” said top scorer Todor Aleksiev (16 points) after the match. “We need to keep fighting and we need more preparation physically and mentally. We also need a bit of luck to get a medal. We don’t mind who we play in the quarterfinals as long as we keep pushing and play well. If we make less mistakes, we might have a chance of winning”.

Setter Georgi Bratoev added: “I think we were better than them on the ball. We knew it would not be easy. We played good block and our jump serve made a difference”.
Team captain Vladimir Nikolov concluded: “We knew that this was a must-win game for us. We felt the pressure. Our game wasn't as good as we expected but we are very happy to accomplish the job we had in our minds”.

Australian Aidan Zingel commented: “I am a bit disappointed after the incredible start to the second set. To lose our focus was terrible. I think it’s a lack of consistency and of experience. We're one of the youngest squads in this tournament”. As for the remainder of his Olympic campaign, he said: “We’ve been coming out firing in most of these matches so we need to keep preparing and keep on coming out firing”.
