A tough battle closes the first day of action in women's volleyball

Turkey's Gozde Sonsirma challenges the triple block of Brazil

Paula Pequeno, Player of Brazil: What we have to remember is the happy ending. Ups and downs can happen in a match but we have a lot of quality. Brazil always has confidence and we are happy with the result.

Sheilla Castro, Player of Brazil: It could have been better. We had two very good sets, the first and the third. But Turkey played very well and I think people can see that we have a lot of quality.

Jaqueline Carvalho, player of Brazil: We did our job and thanks to God we'll do even better (in the coming matches). It was a great game but we have to improve our concentration.

Marco Aurelio Motta, Coach of Turkey: We made some mistakes, especially in the first and last set, but our team is like that. It's their first Olympic Games and we were playing Brazil. It was difficult every time coming from behind and having to start again. The spirit of the team was very positive. We are starting to play now and we've taken one point.

Neslihan Darnel, Player of Turkey: This is our characteristic of play. It's not only against Brazil that we play that way, but against every other team.

On carrying her country's flag at the opening ceremony on Friday and playing in Turkey's first Olympic Games volleyball match:

It was a very proud moment to represent my country last night and today it was a different kind of pride to play with the team.
