Course participants pay homage to Dr. Adityan

 
A memorable event for course participants and instructors

Chennai, India, May 5, 2014 – On Sunday, FIVB Level 1 Coaches Course participants, Course Director Mr Adachi, Course Instructor Mr Sridharan and Observer Mr Moro paid homage to Dr. B. Sivanthi Adityan, former FIVB Honorary Executive Vice-President.

Mr Adachi said that the visit to Dr. Adityan's Memorial Hall was a moving event for participants and instructors. "We are all very sad because we miss Dr. Adityan and convey our heartfelt homage," he added.  Mr Adachi also said that such a visit may be included in the programme of every course to be organised in India. 

Mrs Adityan attended the event.

It has been one year since Dr. Adityan
passed away aged 76 in Chennai following a long illness. He was a FIVB Executive Committee member, member of numerous FIVB Commissions, President of the Volleyball Federation of India, Life President of the India Olympic Association and Vice President of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA).

He was elected as a FIVB Board of Administration member during the FIVB World Congress held at Long Beach, Los Angeles, USA in 1984 before being elected as FIVB Executive Vice-President in the FIVB World Congress held at Tokyo, Japan in 1998.

Dr. Adityan received the FIVB Honorary Executive Vice-President honour during his last FIVB appearance at the 2012 Congress in Anaheim where Dr. Ary S. Graça F° was elected as the FIVB’s fourth President.

In 1989, Dr. Adityan was also awarded the Gold Medal by the International Volleyball Federation for his active and key participation for the development of volleyball in India.

He was also presented with the OCA Merit Award by His Excellency Sheikh Ahmad Al-Sabah, President of the OCA in 2010.
