European champions Trentino BetClic of Italy kept
the name of the world club kings purely Italian for the
fifth time in a row after they overwhelmed PGE Skra
Belchatow of Poland 3-0 (26-24, 25-18, 25-19) in the
final of the FIVB 2009 Men’s Club World Champion-
ship at the Aspire Zone Indoor Hall in Doha, Qatar in
November.
With the silver medal, PGE Skra Belchatow became
the first Polish club to stand on the podium of this
prestigious championship, being staged for the first
time in 17 years. And following Zenit Kazan’s 3-0 (25-
13, 25-18, 25-16) bronze medal victory over Paykan
of Iran, Russia returned to the podium for the first
time since CSKA Moscow won silver in 1989.
The first day of the competition was historic as it
featured the trial of the new “Golden Formula” rule,
which requires that the first attack for each team af-
ter the opponent’s service takes place from the back
row in an attempt to produce longer rallies.
