Juliana and Larissa of Brazil captured their first
gold medal in three attempts at the US$ 600,000
A1 Beach Volleyball Grand Slam Presented by Volks-
bank. In the final they won 21-12, 21-15 in 39 min-
utes over fourth-seeded Nicole Branagh and Elaine
Youngs of the United States.
The men’s tournament ended with victory for Olym-
pic gold medallists Todd Rogers and Phil Dalhausser
who triumphed in a thrilling finale after 63 minutes
over Harley and Alison, the two-time Grand Slam
winners from Brazil. Rogers and Dalhausser won
$US43,500 for a memorable success that was pre-
ceded by a remarkable air show by Red Bull’s Cora
helicopter.
Third place went to Volleyball Olympic gold medal-
lists Reinder Nummerdor and Richard Schuil of the
Netherlands, who beat last year’s Klagenfurt cham-
pions Igor Kolodinsky and Dmitri Barsouk of Russia.
Klagenfurt topped all previous events with a total of
125,000 fans, a new record attendance.
