Americans Jen Kessy and April Ross validated their
world championship title by defeating Vassiliki
Arvaniti and Maria Tsiartsiani of Greece for the US$
600,000 World Series 13 Grand Chelem gold medal.
With a single-elimination format at a SWATCH FIVB
World Tour for the first time since 2001, the third-
seeded Kessy and Ross scored a 21-16, 21-17 win
in 42 minutes over the 20th seeds to share theUS$
43,000 first prize. The Greeks split $28,000 for
second place while Sara Goller and Laura Ludwig of
Germany took bronze.
The single-elimination format worked perfectly for
another American pair, Olympic champions Phil Dal-
hausser and Todd Rogers, who took the men’s title by
defeating seventh-seeded Adrian Gavira Collado and
Pablo Herrera of Spain 21-8, 21-14 in 35 minutes.
Top-seeded Julius Brink and Jonas Reckermann gave
Germany their second bronze medal of the season by
beating 11th-seeded Reinder Nummerdor and Rich-
ard Schuil of the Netherlands.
