The
Osaka
podium
Juliana and Larissa of Brazil cruised to their second
SWATCH FIVB World Tour title of the season by de-
feating compatriots Talita and Antonelli in the final
of the US$ 190,000 Keihan/SMFG Japan Open.
It was plain-sailing for the top seeds, who downed
the fifth seeds 26-24, 19-21, 18-16 in 65 minutes
to win the US$ 30,000 first-place prize. Juliana
and Larissa won the season-opening event on the
2009 SWATCH FIVB World Tour calendar in April in
Brasilia before withdrawing from Shanghai.
In the bronze-medal match, 13th-seeded Sanne Keiz-
er and Marleen Van Iersel of the Netherlands de-
feated 26th-seeded Angie Akers and Tyra Turner of
the United States 21-19, 21-18 in 36 minutes. These
were the first-ever SWATCH FIVB World Tour medals
for the Dutch players, who shared the US$ 15,000
third-place prize. Akers and Turner split US$ 11,200
in their first international event together.
