The Commission decided to have a study carried
out on FIVB Coaches Courses as part of a long-term
project. The pros and cons of the “Golden Formula”
were also considered.

Themain topics discussed at themeet-
ing in October was the preparation of
the annual events calendar with top
priority being given to the safety of
athletes so as not to overload them.
Another key decision taken was that
after 2014, Confederations will take
on the responsibility of organizing
the FIVB World Championships Olym-
pic Qualifying tournaments.
Beach Volleyball Commission
and World Tour
The FIVB Beach Volleyball Commission and FIVB
Beach Volleyball World Tour Council held their
annual meetings in October with more than
25 Beach Volleyball promoters and Federation
Presidents attending. The FIVB reported record-
breaking television numbers for the 2009 SWATCH
FIVB World Tour and the 2009 SWATCH FIVB World
Championships in Stavanger, Norway, 180% higher
than in 2007. Rome was confirmed as the venue
of the 2011 SWATCH FIVB World Championships.
New FIVB projects were announced such as Beach
Volleyball Around the World for amateur players.
The new Mikasa ball, the VLS 300, was announced
for the seasons to come up to the 2012 Olympic
Games.
World League
The meeting in October confirmed the pools for the
2010 edition and awarded Argentina the honour
of hosting the Final Round of the 2010 FIVB World
League, the 21st edition of Volleyball’s flagship an-
nual men’s competition.
World Grand Prix
The annual FIVB World Grand Prix Council meeting
was held in Tokyo in August. President Wei stressed
the importance of having more female referees to
take charge in the women’s tournaments. During
the meeting was decided that 12 teams including
four from Asia, four from Europe and four from
North/South America remain the limited amount to
test their mettle in the preliminaries next August.
The Final Round for 2010 was assigned to Ningbo,
China. As host city for the Final Round in 2011 was
appointed Macau, while the 2012 edition is expect-
ed to take place in Europe to alleviate the distant
journey of the participating teams to the London
Games.
