Shelda, the all-time money leader on the SWATCH
FIVB World Tour, put more distance between her-
self and the rest of the competition by winning the
1to1 energy Grand Slam with partner Ana Paula
Connelly. The two Brazilians, who first teamed up
in the final tournament of the 2007 season, won
all seven matches in Gstaad to capture the gold
medal and US$43,500, defeating Jia Tian and Jie
Wang of China 21-15, 21-15. Shelda moved to 33
titles, with over US$1.2 million in prize money in
her career.
Brazil’s Harley and Pedro, who during a stretch
from the end of 2007 to the start of 2008 won five
of seven events, regained their winning form by
beating Reinder Nummerdor and Richard Schuil of
the Netherlands, 21-16, 22-24, 15-13 in the gold-
medal match of the US$600,000 event. Claiming
his 10th title on the SWATCH FIVB tour, Harley mo-
ved into a tie for ninth place on the all-time victory
list.
