AVC Beach Council meeting in
Jakarta
The AVC Beach Council has determined
its beach volleyball competition calendar for
2013.
At a meeting in February the Council
discussed proposals for the region’s quali-
fication tournaments and the format of a
brand new event - the AVC Pro-Beach Tour
Masters - scheduled to be held in Thailand,
China and the UAE this year.
A total of 18 tournaments were sched-
uled for the AVC region in 2013 although
only nine tournaments were confirmed. Of
the nine events, six have a fixed date and
location while the other three are pending
confirmation for the dates.
In the final of the 2013 Men's Junior African
Nations Championship, Tunisia captured their
third consecutive title after defeating Egypt
3-1 (25-17, 22-25, 25-19, 25-21).
The bronze
medal went to Rwanda who beat Morocco
3-0 (27-25, 27-25, 25-21).
Tunisia now has nine titles (1984, 1986,
1988, 1994, 1998, 2000, 2008, 2010
and
2013),
ahead of Egypt and Algeria with two
titles and Morocco with one.
By reaching the semifinals, Tunisia, Egypt,
Rwanda and Morocco secured the four
vacancies reserved for Africa at the 2013 FIVB
World Championship to be held in Turkey.

Brazilian duo Rebecca-Liliane took home
gold in the women’s competition while
compatriots Thiago-Alvaro won the top prize
in the men’s final of the fourth stop of the
South American Beach Volleyball Circuit.
The stop was played in Peru where the
best beach volleyball teams on the continent
– 16
for each gender – were welcomed at
the Los Delfines Resort in the Miraflores
neighbourhood in Lima.
Brazil's Thiago-Alvaro won the finals
against Chile's Grimalt cousins 2-1 (21-
16, 20-22, 15-10).
The women’s finals saw
two Brazilian teams face each other with
Rebecca-Liliane winning 2-0 (21-14, 21-18)
over Elize-Fernanda.
The National Gymnasium of Costa Rica
has installed a new playing floor donated by
NORCECA.
Through NORCECA’s development pro-
gramme, national federations – particularly
those in category I and II – are eligible to re-
ceive indoor floors and outdoor playing sur-
faces from the Confederation. Sport Court
has been the official playing surface for all
competitions organised by NORCECA since
2009.
The gymnasium’s 3,200-seat facility will
host the 10
th
Central American Games from
March 9 to 16 when seven Central American
countries will take part in the double-gender
tournament.
Following confirmation of its calendar,
the CEV’s beach volleyball season will
start in Antalya, Turkey from April 2 to 6
and culminate in the CEV Beach Volleyball
European Championship from July 30 to
August 4 in Klagenfurt, Austria. The season
will include also a series of additional
events.
The calendar also provides Europe’s
youngsters with opportunities to qualify for
the 2014 Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing,
China where beach volleyball will celebrate
its first appearance after missing out on the
inaugural edition held in Singapore three
years ago.
