Following confirmation of the 2013 World
League calendar, Poland will host nine-time
World League winners Brazil in the opening
weekend of Pool A from June 7 to 9.
The top three world ranked teams in
pools A, B and C will play three matches
at home and two away. The three teams at
the bottom of the rankings will play twice at
home and three times away. The customary
World League format of two teams playing
twice over the course of a weekend returns
after the 2012 edition experienced change
due to the congested pre-Olympic Games
calendar.

Yuri Marichev has been appointed as the
new coach of the Russian women’s team.
The Dynamo Krasnador coach takes over
from Sergei Ovchinnikov, who passed away
three weeks after Russia lost to Brazil in the
quarterfinals of the London 2012 Olympic
Games. Marichev, 52, will continue as
coach of Russian club side Krasnador for the
duration of his two-year contract.
The Russia women's team are currently
ranked sixth in the FIVB rankings. They will
defend their World Championship title next
year, which they won in 2010 on top of their
2006
triumph and will also participate in this
year's World Grand Prix after missing the
last edition.

Volleyball World Championships, which will
be staged in Mexico this year.
The FIVB Boys' Under-19 World
Championship is scheduled to be played
from June 27 to July 7 in the cities of Mexicali
and Tijuana, while the women’s Under-23
World Championship - a new tournament
launched by the FIVB - will be held from
October 2 to 13.
The FIVB introduced the Under-23
World Championships to provide another
opportunity for age-group players to
participate in an international tournament
with the goal of reducing the gap between
age-group and senior level volleyball.

five teams will qualify for the Finals. The
premier annual FIVB women’s volleyball event
features 20 teams this year, four more than in
last year’s edition. The World Grand Prix Finals
will take place in Sapporo from August 28 to
September 1. Japan has hosted the World
Grand Prix Finals four times in the past with
Sapporo being a fifth host city after Tokyo
(2009),
Yokohama (2008), Sendai (2005) and
Kobe (1997).
The 2013 World Grand Prix will be Algeria's first appearance in the tournament
