JANUARY 2013
EDITION IN ENGLISH
A year of endless
possibilities
In December, in the Executive Committee
meeting in Rio de Janeiro, I outlined what
I believed to be the important factors in
volleyball’s progress for the months and
years to come.
From an organisational perspective, it is
important that we are committed to being
well governed and transparent as this is
an important factor in maintaining our
standing with the outside world. This will
also enable us to build better relationships
with governments, whose partnership
would be invaluable especially on technical
projects and investments.
That being said, it is essential that we build
the capacities of our national federation
managers, who are so crucial to the
development and expansion of our sport.

Egypt and Japan welcomed into
World League
The FIVB Executive Committee applauded
the Beach Volleyball World Tour Council’s
new approach to beach volleyball in 2013.
The initiative capitalises on the tremendous
momentum of past years while creating
new opportunities for players.
The FIVB Executive Committee approved
the 2013 FIVB volleyball calendar proposed
by the Sports Events Council in early
December, including new dates for some of
the age group World Championships.
The major changes saw the Women's and
Men's Under 23 World Championship
Open tournaments, which will be staged
by the FIVB for the first time ever in 2013,
move from July and August respectively to
similar dates in October.
The FIVB Executive Committee approved
the appointment of Egypt and Japan into
the 2013 edition of the World League.
The decision follows the ratification of the
Sports Events Council's proposal to expand
the World League to 18 teams (three pools
of six teams) for the first time in its history.
Egypt, who last participated in 2010, and
Japan, who finished 15
th
in 2012, will join
Pool C, which consists of Canada (WR18),
Korea (WR22), Finland (WR31) and the
Netherlands.
Committee members discussed the
President’s 100 day report in addition to
proposals from the Finance Commission,
Sports Events Council, World League
Council, World Grand Prix Council and
Beach Volleyball World Tour Council.
