Towards an efficient,
dynamic, modern federation
It is with an enormous sense of pride that I address you for
the first time in these pages as President of the FIVB. We have
come a long way since we began, and it is my avowed intention
to ensure that volleyball and beach volleyball not only stay in
touch with the ever-changing world in which we live today,
but offer a beacon of hope and joy to players and spectators
Under our leadership the FIVB will become even more efficient, more
dynamic, and more modern in its outlook. For me it is a great honour
and at the same time a great opportunity to grow the sport of volleyball
around the world, taking it into schools and boosting its profile, and I
am proud to be able to lead it into this new era.
There has been significant change within the organisation over the
past four years under my predecessor, Honorary FIVB President Jizhong
Wei, and I would now like to take the baton and run with it, with a
great sense of purpose for the benefit of volleyball. The three previous
Presidents all did a tremendous job for volleyball, and we would not be
in the position we are today without them.
Their work has given us the opportunity to further grow volleyball
today. However in order to do that we need ideas, new ideas to take
volleyball to the next level. I have some, but I’m looking forward to
receiving input from all FIVB members to help volleyball grow around
the world.
On the court, technology to help referees is a good example of how
we might achieve this, but I would like to take it one step further to be
in line with the likes of tennis to get the crowd involved. Off the court,
one of our major goals is to improve communication both internally
and externally and implement a better working structure within the
head office and across the confederations.
These are just some of the ways in which we can make sure that
volleyball and beach volleyball continue to grow in popularity at every
level, and I look forward to the challenge of helping to write the next
chapter in the history of the greatest sport in the world.
