One of the prerequisites for the IOC of any Olympic Games is to
provide a legacy, and beach volleyball has already made a start in the
host country. Over 4,000 tons of sand from Horse Guards Parade and
the practice courts in St James’s Park have been donated by LOCOG
to sports venues across London and the south-east of England in a
bid to increase interest and participation in the sport.
“The motto of London 2012 – Inspire a Generation – is absolutely
commendable and the FIVB will use these Games to inspire
the world’s youth and the British youth to participate in sport
through volleyball and beach volleyball,” President Wei concluded.
