no doubt with
to win U21
Russian volleyball hasn’t been short of glory in the last 12 months.
First came Olympic Games gold at London 2012 and then FIVB World
League and FIVB Boys’ U19 World Championship glory followed on
earlier in 2013, so there was definitely the feeling that the U21 team
had a duty to keep the run of success going.
Mikhail Nikolaev’s side did so emphatically in Turkey with a 3-0 (25-
16, 25-16, 25-20) victory over Brazil in the gold medal match at the
Baskent Volleyball Hall in Ankara.
“Russia beat Brazil at the Olympics and in the World League. So we
had to do it today,” Russia’s captain Egor Feoktistov said. “We were
worrying about this match, but we also prepared hard. We were as an
organic whole today which was necessary to play effectively. We also
had a good spirit that meant we were able to stop our opponents
from getting into the match.
Russia defended their FIVB U21 Men’s World Championship
title in emphatic fashion and
looks back on all the
action from Turkey.
