Japanese fans came out in force for the five days of competition
Serbia’s emerging team belied their inexperience to beat Italy in the for
the bronze medal. It was the second time that the team from the Bal-
kans have won World Grand Prix bronze in only three appearances, hav-
ing also done so in 2011. The European champions won three matches
from five in Sapporo on the eve of defending their continental title in
Switzerland and Germany.
“I’m very proud of my team. We won our secondWorld Grand Prix med-
al and I’m really happy and satisfied with this,” said coach Zoran Terzic.
Brazil too will now turn their attention to the next competition on the
agenda – the South American Championship – which will be held from
September 18 to 22 in Peru. Such is their dominance right now that
anything other than another title, without losing a set, would come as
a big surprise.
