Mikhaylov finished London 2012 as leading point scorer with 148 points.
Mikhaylov is one of the most recognisable faces in international volleyball.
The 25-year-old’s presence at the net was crucial to Russia’s Olympic victory.
At 25 years of age, Mikhaylov is likely to have his eyes on a third
Olympic medal at Rio in three years time and possibly a fourth in
2020.
By then his mind may have started to turn towards retirement
and while he isn’t 100 per cent sure of what he wants to do, he
is certain he won’t be adding further medals to his collection as a
coach.
The only thing I am sure about is that I will never become a coach,”
he said. “It’s too hard. I saw what it did to (former coach) Alekno. He
had only four days rest after the Olympics.”
Regardless of what he does when he finishes, Mikhaylov will be
around for a few more years yet, leaving opposition coaches to face
sleepless nights of their own, as they try to stop Russia from achieving
further glory.
