FIVB welcomes East
Timor as 218th
country to
join International Volleyball |

Porto, Portugal, May 12, 2004 – The South East Asian country of
East Timor was welcomed into the international Volleyball family
during the opening session of the International Volleyball
Federation’s 29th World Congress in Porto, Portugal on
Wednesday.
The World Congress considered that East Timor, which has a
population of less than one million, fulfilled all the
conditions for its affiliation to the governing body of
Volleyball worldwide and thus became the 218th country or
territory of the world’s largest sports organisation and a
member of the Asian Confederation.
