President declares new
found
solidarity within FIVB |
 |
Porto,
Portugal, May 14, 2004 – The FIVB President Dr. Rubén Acosta
declared the FIVB has a new found solidarity amongst all of its
218 Federations during a press conference on Friday, following
the 29th World Congress in Porto, Portugal.
Dr Acosta said the past two years had been a challenge in the
face of a campaign of lies and deceit against himself and Mr.
Seppey from the former President of the Argentina Federation Mr.
Mario Goijman but now the FIVB has turned a page.
“The delegates arrived here with that in their mind,” Dr Acosta
told journalists referring to Mr Goijman's crusade. “But when we
opened the discussions all the proof was there that all the
accusations were false and the change in attitude of the
delegates confirmed the feeling that there was a common
understanding and solidarity.
“From
now on with everything behind us it must remain in the past and
we must now look into future for the good of our sport.”
Dr Acosta was joined by FIVB General Manager Mr. Jean Pierre
Seppey, Executive Committee members M. Vicente Araujo, Dr. Ary
Graça, Sr. Cristóbal Marte Hoffiz, Dr. Sivanthi Adityan, Prof.
Hiroshi Toyoda as well as Dr Jean-Loup Chappelet, a professor at
the Swiss Graduate School of Public Administration, and Mr Yves
Braunschweig from KPMG for the press conference.
Both
Dr Chappelet and Mr Braunschweig were contributors to the FIVB’s
recently published brochure Sports Money for Sport, which
demonstrates how the FIVB has developed into one of the most
successful international sports federations through a
professional approach to sports administration and a policy of
investing over 80% of the funds it raises directly into
developing Volleyball and Beach Volleyball.
It gives facts and figures about income and expenditure on
sports activities over the last 20 years and explains the FIVB’s
long-standing policy of paying commissions of up to 10% to those
of its members (not paid officials) who successfully find and
negotiate new sources of finance for Volleyball and Beach
Volleyball.
