30th FIVB World
Congress to be held in Japan |

Porto, Portugal, May 13, 2004 – After two days of fruitful
discussion and decision making during the 29th FIVB World
Congress in the Portugal city of Porto, Tokyo was unveiled on
Thursday as the next host of the FIVB World Congress in October
2006 immediately before the 2006 World Championships.
FIVB President Dr. Rubén Acosta said the 29th Congress was “the
most fulfilling he had attended,” going on to say, “the
discussions and debates were lively and made for a very
productive two days.”
He congratulated the President of the Portuguese Federation Mr
Vicente Araujo for hosting a superb event as well as all the
delegates who participated in an “excellent forum for
discussion”.
The Portuguese secretary of youth and sports Mr. Herminio
Loureiro also spoke at the closing and said “Volleyball and the
Portuguese Federation provided a model for modernising sport and
structures which is important for Portuguese sport.”
As well as the World Congress, the Portuguese Volleyball
Federation will also be hosting this year a Volleyball Olympic
Qualification tournament in Porto, a Swatch-FIVB Beach
Volleyball World Tour event in Espinho and the U21 Beach
Volleyball World Championships in Porto Santo from September
15-19.
The end of the Congress was highlighted by the election of Mr
Roberto Wilfrido Escobar Gonzalez from Paraguay and Mr Augusto
Patricio Sandoval Carreira from Ecuador on to the FIVB Board of
Administration.
While Gold Awards for 50 years affiliation to the FIVB were also
presented by Dr Acosta to Austria, China, Israel and Spain while
Angola, Faroe Islands, Liechtenstein, Mozambique and Rwanda were
honoured with Silver Awards for 25 years affiliation. |
