COMPETITION SYSTEM FOR MEN’S U21, WOMEN’S U20, BOYS’ U19
and
GIRLS’ U18 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS
The competition consists of three rounds, with 42
matches in total:
a) Preliminary Round 24 matches
b) Play-off round 6 matches
c) Final Round 12 matches
Preliminary Round
Four pools (A, B, C, D) will be composed of 4 teams each
and in each pool, the teams will play a Round Robin
system to determine the ranking and will be classified
from 1st to 4th.
Teams ranked 4th in each preliminary pool (A4, B4, C4 &
D4) will depart from the Championship immediately
following the preliminary round.
Play-off Round (FIVB O-8a form)
The play-off round consists of 6 matches: two matches in
the play-off seeding group and four matches in the
play-off elimination group.
The play-off seeding group will be composed of the four
teams ranked first in each preliminary pool (A1, B1, C1
& D1). By drawing of lots, these four teams will be set
in two pairs of teams to play two seeding group matches.
Two winners and two losers will be determined.
The play-off elimination group will be composed of 8
teams, namely: the 4 teams ranked second and the 4 teams
ranked third in each preliminary pool (A2, B2, C2, D2,
A3, B3, C3 & D3). Each of these teams will play one
elimination match for a total of 4 matches.
The distribution of teams in the play-off elimination
group must take into consideration the following
principles:
a) matches between two teams of the same preliminary
pool must be avoided.
b) the 4 teams A2, B2, C2 & D2 will be seeded in
positions 1, 8, 5 & 4.
c) the 4 teams A3, B3, C3 & D3 will be distributed by
guided drawing of lots in positions 2, 3, 6 & 7
respecting the principle stated in point a) above.
The four teams that win these four play-off elimination
group matches will join the teams of the play-off
seeding group (winners and losers) to play the final
round.
The four teams losing the play-off elimination group
matches will depart from the Championship.
Final Round (FIVB O-8b form)
(1/4 finals, semi-finals and Classification matches)
The four teams of the seeding group classified after
their play-off matches as winners and losers plus the 4
teams that won their elimination group matches will play
the final round matches in accordance with the
"knock-out" system, as outlined in the FIVB 0-8b form to
determine the final ranking of the Championship from 1st
to 8th places.
The starting position of these 8 teams in the final
round will be determined in accordance with the
following principles:
a) two winners of the seeding group will be drawn in
positions 1 & 8.
b) two losers of the seeding group will be drawn in
positions 4 & 5 in order not to repeat matches of the
play-off seeding and elimination groups.
c) four teams of the elimination group will be
distributed in positions 2, 3, 6 & 7 by guided drawing
of lots with the condition that the repetition of
matches is avoided as much as possible. |
