Born in Rodas, Cuba in 1953, Jose Suarez arrived in Venezuela in 1992 to begin his work on the development of Volleyball in this country. Starting with a group of fresh young players, this former member of Cuba's national squad, who had participated in all major international events - including World Championships and Olympic Games, has been responsible for the subsequent rise of the sport in Venezuela.. The country's junior team has already been among the best, finishing third in the last World Championship in Poland in 2001. The same year, Suarez' dreams came true when Venezuela, under his command, made a fearless debut in the World League. Last year, his side managed only one victory but Suarez and his young boys will have another chance in 2003 to show their increasing strength and tactics. In a poll conducted by sports journalists in Venezuela, Suarez was already twice chosen the best coach.

Nacido en Rodas, Cuba en 1953, José Suárez llegó a Venezuela en 1992 para empezar a trabajar en el desarrollo del voleibol en este país. Comenzando con un grupo de entusiastas jóvenes, este ex integrante del seleccionado cubano que participó en todos los grandes torneos internacionales -incluyendo Campeonatos Mundiales y Juegos Olímpicos- se convirtió en el responsable del consiguiente progreso de este deporte en Venezuela. El equipo juvenil que ya había estado incluido dentro de los mejores, acabó en el tercer lugar del pasado Campeonato Mundial Juvenil en Polonia 2001. El mismo año, los sueños de Suárez se hicieron realidad cuando bajo su mando Venezuela tuvo un excepcional debut en la Liga Mundial. El año pasado su escuadra sólo alcanzó una victoria, pero Suárez y sus jóvenes muchachos tendrán una nueva oportunidad en el 2003 para demostrar que han crecido en fuerza y en tácticas. Suárez ya ha sido elegido en dos ocasiones el mejor técnico por la prensa venezolana.

Cambero
will replace coach Suárez in Venezuela

25, 2003 - Miguel Cambero will replace Cuban
head coach David Suárez in the national team of
Venezuela during the World League. Cambero will
be assisted by Argimiro Méndez. Suárez is
presently recovering from a meningitis virus and
has decided to take a break to fully recover.
Head coach of Venezuela since 1992, Cuban Suárez
was replaced also before for the Americas Cup
1999, when he was unable to obtain a visa for
the United States. According to the FVV oficials,
Suárez will now coach the national youth team
that will play in the U-19 World Championship in
Thailand on July 5-13. Miguel Cambero, born in
Barquisimeto, Venezuela, coached the national
youth team that won the bronze medal in the
Youth World Championship in Poland 2001, and
last year assisted Suárez in Argentina at the
Men's World Championship. more.
