Women's World Cup 2003 - Press Conference

Press conference

China beat Japan 3-0 (25-18, 25-18, 25-13) - duration 1:16
15-Nov, start time: 18:01, end time: 19:17 - Attendance: 10,000
CHEN Zhonghe (Chinese head coach)
We prepared ourselves well for the match and watched the game between the Japanese team and the Cuban team last evening to feel the atmosphere. It was hard to get the gold medal of the tournament, but we played well and are happy that we got it. As we still have much to improve, we will overcome our weak points before the Olympics 2004 in Athens.

ZHAO Ruirui (Chinese player)
I am content with today's game. We were able to stay calm as usual and deliver effective attacks. We bunched up together and played with confidence. I know that the Japanese team performs perfect plays. We felt the cheering for them from the spectators was extraordinary.

YANAGIMOTO Shoichi (Japanese head coach)
Although it was short time since the team had been formed, we have become better and stronger one match after another. Our first aim of defeating the Korean team has been accomplished. We have learned and experienced a lot through the tournament. I am sure that we have possibility to qualify in the competition slated to be held in May 2004.

SUGIYAMA Sachiko (Japanese player)
Since the formation of the team at the beginning of last May, we prepared ourselves for the tournament. We will continuously try to play with confidence and realize our aim of getting a ticket to Athens. The Chinese team is strong with speed and height, totally a very good team.
