Women's World Cup 2003 - Press Conference

Press conference

Japan beat Cuba 3-2 (15-25, 25-19, 21-25, 25-21, 15-13) - duration 2:03
14-Nov, start time: 18:00, end time: 20:03 - Attendance: 9,700
CALDERON Luis (Cuban head coach)
We lacked concentration from the beginning to the end of the match. That is the biggest cause of the defeat. Cheering for the Japanese team from the excited spectators did not discourage us.

RUIZ (Cuban captain)
The Japanese team prepared themselves well for the match, and played excellently. They know that we are not good at receiving strong serves. I would like to say "Congratulations."

YANAGIMOTO Shoichi (Japanese head coach)
Our condition was as good as in the last match. We tried to respond to high blocking with a variety of offensive plays. As we are not skilled enough to receive high-level effective serves, we managed to do volleyball of various offensive plays. We got good results with the offensive plays in crucial times.

YOSHIHARA Tomoko (Japanese captain)
After we lost the first set, we started to play defiantly. Today is SUZUKI's birthday. We had decided to celebrate her birthday with the victory over the Cuban team. So I am happy that we won the match.
