Singapore, Singapore, August 24, 2010 - Russia and Argentina competed in Toa Payoh Sports Hall in the semifinals of the 2010 Singapore Youth Olympic Games where the South American champions scored a straight-set (25-10, 25-16, 25-19) win over the European side.
Argentina’s record is now 2-1, while Russia’s record changed to 2-1 after the loss.
Argentina caught Russia off-guard in the first set, playing with more spirit and energy, earning a dominating 15-point victory.

Argentina’s momentum carried over into the second set, which they led the entire way thanks to Ramiro Nunez who played exeptionally well. Russia managed to cut Argentina’s lead, which was as much as nine, to four late in the set, but Argentina maintained the lead.
Russia regained their composure, starting the third set on a 5-2 run, but Argentina responded and tied the set at five. Argentina held on and won by the slimmest margin of the match.
Damian Villalba had a game-high 17 points for Argentina. Vadim Zolotukhin led Russia with eight points.
Argentina will compete in the boys’ final on Thursday at 11:30 against the winner of Cuba-Serbia. Russia will play on Wednesday at 18:00 against the loser of Cuba-Serbia for third place.
