Tough to split USA and Belgium in Girls YOG final |

USA beat Belgium in a five set thriller in the pool play |
Singapore, Singapore, August 26, 2010 - The Girls Youth Olympic Games gold medal game on Thursday is between United States and Belgium, two teams that like the boys final are evenly matched. Both teams have tall girls who are agile in all areas of the game. Both teams have excellent spikers and blockers and use the soft touch as a deceptive tactic. Before they landed in Singapore, the Belgians identified USA as the team to beat on the road to gold, and coach Julien Van De Vyver feels the Americans are favoured in the championship game.
"We know we have a tough game and have our work cut out for us," he said after the semifinal win over Peru.

The USA beat Belgium in the preliminary round, and the USA girls have gotten better game by game. In the semifinal against Japan, a USA player chased down an errant ball and managed to bump it over the net. A few seconds later, two USA girls blocked a spike. The play said much about the USA's determination to win. "We wouldn't have done that a few days ago," said USA coach Rodney Wilde. "We're a better team now."
