Team profile

The Japanese Youth Girls National team has been one of the leading teams in the world for a number of years and are previous FIVB World champions.

Coach, Norihito Uehara, an enthusiastic and experienced Volleyball coach, hopes his players improve as athletes and learn the spirit of the Olympics as they prepare for the first Youth Olympic Games. Uehara’s squad, with their self-consciousness and their pride will do their best to come back with the gold.

Japan is a well-balanced team in terms of defence and offence. There are many short players in the team but they have speed and accuracy skills, meaning they remain dangerous.

Japan has been looking forward to competing in Singapore and the time has now come.

Coach profile

Norihito Uehara, 31, is an enthusiastic and experienced Volleyball coach. Uehara started playing volleyball at the age of 13 at his junior high school before taking up coaching at 18, while studying economics at university, leading Keiai Gakuen High School in Chiba. After graduation, Uehara got a job as a social studies teacher at the same high school and continued coaching volleyball. Up to now, Uehara has led his high school team to the national championship twice in 2001 as the assistant coach and in 2010 as the coach. In addition, he has been active as the coach for the Chiba Selected Girls team in the 2009 Niigata National Athletic Meet and helped deliver a 7th place finish for the side.

Uehara’s coaching ability is improving and he has been appointed as the coach for the Japanese Youth Girls national team just for the Youth Olympic Games in 2010.

Uehara hopes his players will improve as athletes and learn the spirit of the Olympics. Uehara’s squad, with their self-consciousness and their pride as the national team, will be doing their utmost to come back from Singapore with the gold.
