"Peru fully deserved this victory" says Japanese coach Ogawa

Japan’s captain Chisato Mitsuyama: “I do not think we were too tired after the previous games, we simply were not motivated and concentrated for that match”.

Coach Yoshiki Ogawa: “Peru today played extremely well and they deserved this victory. We have been having too many ups and downs at this World Championship and without that consistency you can not finish along with the very best teams. But as I said, today Peru was very solid, they have a very special way of playing, much different from that of the Serbians or the Brazilians, as they are not so tall, but really I think they fully deserved this victory”.

Peru’s captain Vivian Baella: “We displayed a good performance in the first and third set; in the tie-break we realized that it was an all or nothing affair and we decided to take all risks and it paid off. We have some struggles in our team a couple of days ago as we missed the qualification for the semifinals but I think that made us even stronger and united”.

Coach Manuel Hernan Artieda: “I am happy with our performance, the girls were focused and they are happy that they’ll have the chance to play for the fifth place. This World Championship has been a very good experience for all of them, they matured a lot; we have some regrets about the match with Turkey in the prelims, a victory there might have granted us more chances to make it even to the semifinals but we are anyway satisfied with our overall performance here in Thailand”.
