Turkish coach: We anticipate a great match against Italy

Peruvian captain Vivian Baella: “We got extremely nervous in the fourth set, I really do not know why, especially as at that moment we were still leading the score”.

Her coach added: “I think that our setter got anxious both in the third and fourth set; our reception was no longer that effective especially since the Turks had started forcing their services, so the setter found it difficult to organize her play in a good way. I did not change my regular players for two reasons: first, in the fourth set, I thought we had some chances to win 3:1 and then it would have been too risky to have the back-up players in, as they were too cold and had not felt the rhythm of the match. So all in all I think it was still the right decision to continue the match with the regular line-up”.

Turkish captain Kestirengoz: “I am happy with the result and moreover I think we played extremely well, especially from the third set onwards. We served quite strongly, caused problems to their reception and weakened their offensive counterattacks. We are tired after such a long and exhausting match, but tomorrow we have a day off and then we’ll get ready for the next matches. We really wanted to finish the pool in first place and we accomplished that goal. Now we reset and start thinking about the next stage”.

Her coach concluded: “Our block worked extremely well in the third, fourth and fifth set. That was the key of the match. Now I think we’ll play Italy; that will not be the first time we face them, as we played 4 friendly matches plus another game at the European Championships. They always won 3-2, but they are missing a key player who broke her knee right after the European Champs, so I think that this time we’ll have more chances to go for the victory. And for that purpose we’ll be watching their game against Brazil later this afternoon”.
