Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand, July 5, 2009 - Striving for consistency, Germany played the very last match of the preliminaries against Egypt in what was expected to be not a too stressy job.
The girls of coach Brauer totally dominated the first set (25-12) but then did not maintain their full concentration in the opening rallies of the second, so that Egypt managed to build up a good margin before the Germans bounced back to re-gain full control of the operations.
Captain Anna Hoja was not included in the starting line-up and did not play the second set too, but her mate Anna-Christin Quade put up a solid performance both in serving and attacking to move the set count up to 2:0.
The third set was a pure formality with the girls in black jerseys always setting the pace. Germany – along with China – will be now aiming at finishing the competition in 9th place, still not a too disappointing result for the girls who were ranked 6th at the last European Championships in Holland.
