2007 FIVB Girls' Youth World Championship

Match Description

Peru defeated USA in three close sets

Karla Ortiz of peru spikes

In the first set, the Americans made too many unforced errors with their serves and at 23-24 Kanani Herring served long and Peru took the first set. The Americans also played poor floor defence and seemed slow in their reactions.

In the second set, Peru found the weakness of USA and pressed the attack via Zoyla La Rosa, Viviana Baella and Carla Rueda. The Peruvians served with a lot of power with Rueda and Keith Meneses to take the set 25-23.

The third set was a gruelling battle from the start to finish. Peru never quit and maintained the great fighting spirit needed to win the close games. The spikes of Karla Ortiz and Maria Ceccarelli and one block from Cinthya Urquiza were the final ingredients of a 26-24 win for Peru.
