Team profile
The Brazilian youth team have won more titles than any other countries at the Youth World Champs with six gold medals (1989, 1991, 1993, 1995, 2001 and 2003). Relying on their experience, Brazil will aim for another gold medal this year.
Coached by Percy Oncken, who won four of the six titles, the Brazilian youth team have many players who were part of the team who finished second at the 2010 South American Championship.
Great Brazilian players have showed their talent for the first time in an international competition when participating in the Boys' Youth World Championships.When Brazil clinched their first gold medal in 1989, Marcelo Negrão was playing. In 1991, it was the turn of Nalbert. Two years later (1993), Giba was the great player of Brazilian team, such as Renato Felizardo in the 1995 edition, Samuel in 2001, and Thiago Alvez in 2003.

Brazil coach Percy Oncken started his career in 1993, already training the Brazilian boys' youth team for the World Championship. The team won the title and repeated in 1995, 2001 and 2003. At the Youth South American Championship, Percy helped the side win six titles: 1994, 1996, 1998, 2000, 2002 and 2004.
He coached Brazil junior men's team in 2006, winning the South-American Championship of this age category and, two years later, in 2008, the Junior Men's World Championship.
During the 2008/09 season, he coached the club of Ulbra/UPTIME that finished third in the Superliga.
In 2010, he coached the Brazil Junior Men's Team and won the Junior Men's South American Championship.
