Filippo Lanza, Captain of Italy: “I think we probably underestimated the Tunisian team. They are a strong team, they played very well and they did not make many mistakes. As we had won yesterday, we thought we were getting better and that is why we did not play as we should have done and as we are able to do”.
Mahdi Sammoud, Captain of Tunisia: “First of all, I want to say that we were ready to fight as much as possible to win this match. It is the first time in the history of Tunisian volleyball that we reach such a position, we did not make many mistakes and that was fundamental”.
Mario Barbiero, Coach of Italy: “We cannot justify ourselves, we did not play properly. We thought we could do better. I think my captain did not want to say that we underestimated them while that we thought we could have done better. The Tunisian team never allowed us to get into the match. There were some moments during which my guys did not listen to me. We tried to give our best, but we completely lost our concentration. I am sad as we had somehow always played well during this Championship, even during the defeats of this secondary preliminary round. I do not think the timetable has been a problem for us, the main point is to get in the court with full concentration. I am sad for the result, but I am also very proud of what the Federation has been doing in the last months to create new volleyball talents. I think the majority of my players are very good individually and I believe some of them might become talented senior players in the foreseeable future”.
Lotfi Ben Slimane, Coach of Tunisia: “I am sad for the Italian team as I have always thought that they could have reached the best places, it could have been at least in the four best teams. I actually believe that we won a match today, but it will take 2 or 3 years for us before winning again against them. I will be happy regardless of the results of tomorrow, although we will give our best in order to succeed.
