Puerto Rico focused on fundamental skills

Josue Rivera (r) of Puerto Rico and coach Ariel Diaz during the press conference

Josué Rivera, Captain of Puerto Rico: “We didn’t play to our best in the first set but then we recovered and went into ours. We have to concentrate in the match of tomorrow and do the same against Italy, because we can beat them.”

Ariel Diaz, Coach of Puerto Rico: “The kids played with a lot of enthusiasm. I have to give a lot of credit to our scouting because we focused on stopping their player number 2 (Ahemd El Kotb) and succeeded. The reception was good and we also touched a lot of balls in the blocking. We improved our fundamental skills and if we can maintain that I think we have a chance against Italy.”

Omar Hassan, Captain of Egypt: “We didn’t follow completely the tips of our coach. We did not have the concentration and it cost us.”

Attia Hossam, Coach of Egypt: “Puerto Rico played a very good match but we defeated ourselves. The players were thinking ahead of the match today because tomorrow we play Tunisia and there is a long rivalry between the two teams. It is like a derby. So they were over confident against Puerto Rico.”
